Spring is my favorite season, but I’m hardly living up to its magnificence on the blog.  There is simply too much to see and to do outdoors, even on days when the weather is not ideal, to make adequate time for sitting down and writing a post.  Or perhaps it is that the joy of spring is so enlivening that sitting still has become much more difficult — and I already do enough of that for work.

Of course, I’m storing up plenty of images and ideas for posts down the road, when the first glorious madness shall have passed.

For now I’ll give you a taste of yesterday, full of blossoms seen under an overcast sky.

Namasté, y’all!

  2. Meredith, I understand how hard it is to keep up with blogging, when our hearts and bodies want to be outdoors… Flower Hill is not even blooming yet but there is so much to do! The damp chill of today will keep me in most of this day. Your photos are lovely! Enjoy! ;>)

I’m sorry the weather persists damp and chilly there, Carol; here it is typical spring style, full of contradictions. Today it is clear, with a bright sun and a bitter wind that makes my ears ache if I stay out long in it. :(

Play in the dirt. Take pics, write later. I have 9 days in a row off and intend to spend all 9 playing in the mud. It’s still to wet to be called dirt. jim

Well, if you say so… but I can’t imagine a more splendid show than the one I grew up experiencing on a country farm where they’d naturalized for 50 years. ;)

Beautiful images. When spring is getting under way it’s hard to spend free time doing anything besides being outside and gardening.

Beautiful as always, Meredith! I’ve sent you a Sunshine Award on my blog–though even cloudy days have their own beauty.

      How kind of you, Kathy!

Cloudy days do have their own beauty. I find that greens especially are almost surreal in their saturation of color under a grey, filtered light.

Pedal harder, M.E. When this first flush of blossoms goes, much much more will follow. Beautiful, the magnolia against the white blossoms.

LOL, Nell Jean. I feel already that I cannot possibly keep up with such a show and so many tasks vying for my attention outdoors. Glad you enjoyed my favorite image of the three. :)

Wonderful spring pictures! Just love magnolias and it’s a sure sign of spring when they start to bloom!

It is, Charlotte. Although for me those pictured will always be known first as “tulip trees,” as I knew them as a child… with *magnolias* coming long after, in May when the Magnolia grandifloras light up the Southern landscape with a glory of pristine, white flowers and delicious scent. :)

  13. Beautiful blossoms Meredith. I’m finding it challenging to keep up with my own blog, let alone everyone elses. I’m with you, there’s just too much to do outside!

I suspect all of our blog activities are about to get sparser as the season ramps up; there’s no help for it. But I’ll always be happy to stop by yours for a wonderful catch up whenever I get a moment, CV. ;)

  14. Jean says:

Oh, to be where it is spring! After weeks of unseasonably mild weather, the temperatures here last night went down into the single digits. (Isn’t it supposed to be April that is the cruelest month?) I’m so glad I resisted the temptation to get out and clean up flower beds last week when it was in the sixties; all those leaves and plant litter might provide some protection to my emerging plants until it’s really safe to clean up. Meanwhile, your beautiful blooms really cheer me up.

    • Meredith says:

Oh, dear, Jean, single digits is distressing. Glad to get a chance to cheer you a bit, and I’m crossing my fingers for your plants to survive the unseasonable dip — and so glad you didn’t clean up the debris/mulch blanket!

  15. You may be right Meredith – I have a definite unwillingness to engage on Saturday mornings – so how’s spring in Georgia?

    • Meredith says:

Spring in South Carolina, David. Georgia is where I grew up, and it seems spring is progressing just fine there, from what I hear. :) Here in SC, it’s lovely, too, if still a bit too chilly and cloudy and winterish for my tastes. I’m confident it’ll get warmer soon enough, though!

  16. SnaggleTooth says:

I think blossom colors photograph much better in cloudy-ambient light than full sun- which washes out color sometimes- especially with my little old cam!
Great pics- I’m jealous of the warm springtime there n blossoms- we’re back in the 30′s this week. (rats)

thank you for your best wishes too.
