If by “lion” you imagine a whitish-grey creature who is perpetually cold and wet and wears a slightly gloomy expression and does not belong in this geographic region.

Yesteday’s snow (!!) was so wrong on so many levels that I’m not even going to bother whining about it.  I’m going on strike.

Isn’t there a Wordless Wednesday meme floating around blogland?  With these photos, this would appear to be the ideal moment for me to join.

Because otherwise I’ll start ranting about how enduring our third snow of the season had better entitle us to some seriously lamb-like, sunny, blossoming spring perfection at March’s tail end.

Okay.  I’ll shut up now.

I had heard that the south was getting some snow. What a crazy winter, eh?

If it were only the snow, I think I wouldn’t be so cranky. It’s also the temperatures, which are refusing to creep upwards… I don’t know how you stand it in Chicago, Alisha.

  3. Lynn says:

Mama Zen has a Wordless Wednesday post today: http://thezenofmotherhood.blogspot.com/ Your snow pictures are perfect for that.

Yes – we had the snow, too – all schools closed today (for some reason) because it is gone. There is a little residual ice this a.m., but I got to work just fine. Crazy weather.

I predict cherry blossoms exploding from the trees by March’s end. I can’t wait. :)

Aw, Mama Zen’s Wordless Wednesday is so cute.

Weirdly, they did not close schools around here, or the university (which mattered more to us), and we could not figure out why… until we got out and realized we really got hammered, but the surrounding area not so much, and the roads stayed clear. It’s like we were in a little pocket of white.

      Love your prediction, Lynn!

i am so ready for that lamb like weather. sigh. : )

Oh Meredith – I don’t know what to say :(
I’d like to say it can’t be much longer before it’s over now, but I’m afraid to!

Now you’re getting the idea, Heidi. :) A month ago, I’d have said it couldn’t go on much longer. I think we are just going to have to grit our teeth and ride it out.

  7. Talon says:

Our March came in very quietly so we’ll probably be shouting and wailing about snow in a few weeks (that’s if the foot or so we have on the ground now ever takes off) and you’ll be basking in the green glory. Don’t you just want to run out there and put little jackets on those sweet little plants?

    • Meredith says:

Well, we’ll see, Talon. I’m not so sure the wives’ tales have it right (and I heard this one was based on astrological signs in the middle ages, which doesn’t inspire my confidence). The radishes, garlic, and parsley I know will survive the snow (after all, they’ve managed it twice now), and the cabbages are all covered up. But the lettuces didn’t make it… wish I’d thought of some kind of jacket for them, poor little babies. :(

I’m going to hope you’re dead on about the “basking in green glory” part, though! :)

Meredith, Where is this winter coming from and why ever is it still here! It is so wrong that you have snow in March! It’s 34 degrees here and we are all feeling sun deprived. Cross fingers/knock on wood that it warms up as forecast~gail

    • Meredith says:

Thank you, Gail. I like your outrage and stunned disbelief. It matches my own. ;)

We’re supposed to get all the way to 59 degrees this weekend, and maybe even dry out a bit by Friday, too. I’ll join in your crossed fingers vigil!

  10. Anna says:

Brrrrrrrrrr Meredith …..here March came in oh most gently – I saw a ladybird sunbathing in my parent’s garden – now wondering whether it will it go out like a lion :)

    • Meredith says:

Aw, Anna, the only ladybugs I’ve seen in months were the ones who snuck inside to hibernate in the fall. :) I’m envious of you… but still, hope no one else has to endure the lion in a moody tantrum.

  11. Jean says:

Meredith, I think you got the snow that was predicted up here, but that we never got!! I may have to move south to find some decent snow. It really will all melt soon. -Jean

    Meredith,
It seems we are all growing a bit weary of this wintry scene. Although, winter is trying very hard to remind me of its beauty. Last week we enjoyed snowflakes the size of silver dollars, followed by a sunrise that lit up the snow-covered branches, making for the most magical scene. Today the mild temps, blue sky, and wispy clouds have me itching for the warmer weather. :)

    • Meredith says:

Lisa, that scene does sound enchanted. Maybe my striking had something to do with the fact that our snowfall was cold and grey and slush-ugly from the moment it landed. Silver-dollar-sized snowflakes must have been quite an astonishing sight!

  17. Hang in there Meredith! I’ve still got mountains of snow in my front yard, but I can actually see my plants in the back. Buds and shoots a plenty! Enjoy the snow (although I would venture to guess it’s already gone!)

    • Meredith says:

Woohoo! Buds and shoots lift all our winter weary spirits. I keep pointing out the tiny buds to F., and he’s beginning to think I’m overdoing it. ;)

And yes, our snow departed in 24 hours. But we’re still getting below freezing at night…

  18. Lona says:

Well let me whine for you in that when the hyacinths and daffodils are coming up snow is just not allowed nor cold temps. Somebody’s got to do something ;-) Spring is getting closer though and we are all hoping March goes out like a lamb.

The snow missed us by a few miles, but we got buckets of rain. Today is bright and sunny, but still so chilly I am inside on the computer, waiting for the sun to warm things up. The greatest snowfall we ever had here was in March. Hopefully, not this year. I am ready for spring!

    • Meredith says:

We’re having chilly weather here, too, Deb. But they’re now saying we might break into the 60s over the weekend, which would be absolutely thrilling. After two days of drying out, maybe the soil will be workable!
