Happy April, everyone! And for those observing the remembrances of Passover, Good Friday, and Easter, may your gatherings be filled with love and gratitude and joy.
Our like a lamb and it 25 degrees celsius (around 78 farenheit) – so spring has definetly sprung here in southern Ontario. By the way, your blossoms are beautiful. Heather @ whatsbloomingthisweek´s last blog ..Wordless Wednesdays – Forced Star Magnolia
Dear Meredith, What a very lovely way to wish everyone a happy Easter which, I very much hope, will prove to be a relaxing and peaceful time for you too. Sadly, in the UK, for the vast majority of areas, March went out, rather as it had come in, like a very large lion indeed.
Thank you so much for posting to me good wishes prior to my recent break. Such kindnesses are very much appreciated and do not pass unnoticed. Edith Hope´s last blog ..Get Ahead – Wear a Hat
Welcome back, Edith. I do hope your computer issues are resolved and you had a restorative break. I’m sorry to hear that the weather is not cooperating in the UK. We began the month with snow here, if you recall, and I was ready to make a formal complaint if the skies did not reward us handsomely for our suffering by the 31st.
March went out more like a ferocious kitty than a full fledged lion here…days of drizzle, rain, and grey skies. April, however, has shown much promise so far with almost summery temperatures and beautiful sunny skies. Happy Easter to you, as well. Nancy Bond´s last blog ..Happy Easter!
Wishing you peace and joy at Easter Meredith and during the month of April. Here sadly March exited like the lion and not the lamb but April can only improve
So far, so good in April! It’s been beautiful, after having nearly a full day of rain on the 28th/29th. Have a lovely weekend! Kathy´s last blog ..Spring Has Sprung
Happy Easter Meredith. I think our March ended more with a roar than a bleet. We seem to have taken a small step backward, toward chilly and rainy weather. The sun will return soon though, and the gardens are grateful for the showers. Curbstone Valley Farm´s last blog ..First Fowl Friday
The past few days have been glorious here, so, yes, March went out like a lamb. I love all the flowering trees budding out now. Your photo is beautiful. Happy Easter! debsgarden´s last blog ..A Crime Scene on a Beautiful Day
Beautiful blossoms, Meredith! March slipped away here as quietly and sweetly as it came in. We’re having a bit of an unseasonally hot spell here so naturally I’ve been outside all day in the garden – yes! Finally!
I hope you and F. have a wonderful Easter and a glorious weekend. Talon´s last blog ..Illusory…
Hi Meredith, March very definitely did not go out like a lamb here in New England. I drove down to Rhode Island on Monday for my bi-weekly visit to my mother, only to get there just in time for 10+” of rain and the biggest flood that state has experienced in 200 years! When I left on the 31st, the rain had stopped, but rivers had just crested that morning. As I crossed the bridge over the raging Pawtuxet River (which crested at almost 21′, about 6′ higher than the previous record flood level, set just two weeks earlier), I had a view of what used to be the parking lot at a big local mall but was now a lake, with the car roofs just breaking the surface providing the only clue that this is not normally a lake. Very definitely not lamb-like! Jean´s last blog ..Bloggers and Blotanists: Continuing the Conversation
Whoa, Jean! That sounds terrible. When Nature decides to show her power, it can be awe-inspiring… but with such terrible results for us sometimes. I do hope you and your mother stay safe and dry. I have been to Rhode Island once, and thought it very quaint and charming.
Meredith, beautiful photo BTW, and thanks for the springtime greetings. We celebrated Good Friday today, and I can’t wait until Easter. My March went out like a lamb indeed.~~Dee
wow meredith! i was baptised coptic orthodox too! not a practicing either. i have to look up the color red eggs again- i recently read but do not remember- here in germany, they paint them blue, yellow, red, and each color symbolizes something- i love it!
i will be back later!
and yes, march went out like a lamb!
lovely photo! your photos have been *gorgeous* here. elsa´s last blog ..nature of easter
Thank you, Elsa, for the compliments. Let me know what you find out about the blood-colored eggs. We are to make them tonight — from the skins of red onions.
March did just slip away here, in mist and rain and mildness. It was great. Now we’re into April’s mists (come with the mild weather) but when the fog burns off here today it’s going to be lovely. It already is down in the Valley. So here’s to spring happening in earnest, and happy Easter if you celebrate. jodi (bloomingwriter)´s last blog ..Peeking at petals
I hope you enjoy your spring in earnest, too, Jodi. We do celebrate. As soon as I finish up this and some last-minute checks on the house, we are off to visit my family in Georgia!
Oh these blossoms are so delicate.
Are they fragrant as well?
Mmmm
Thank you for this,
and a very lovely and peaceful weekend to you and yours as well.

Beautiful picture! The weather was certainly enjoyable the end of March – and this week we’ve seen near 85 degrees a few days. Hey, that’s fine with me! We got a lot done in the garden, and I managed to pump out a few blogs, too. I AM glad that March is over, though, and am looking forward to a little better luck from here on out. HOPPY EASTER to you! Joseph´s last blog ..Spring veggie garden start
Very nice, Joseph. On Friday, we managed to get up to 86 — pretty dramatic change compared to what we’ve had lately. I’ll have to check out your newest blog posts now that we’re back from our holiday travels.
well meredith, i am sure f told you by now too that for the orthodox, red symbolized the blood of christ and the egg, rebirth. but i really loved reading about here:
Actually, F. didn’t tell me either of those things, Elsa. He was more interested in the ritual/game in which we bang them together head to head while saying “Christ is risen” and “He is risen indeed” in his native language, seeing whose egg is first to crack.
Just when I thought we were getting away with a very mild spring, whoosh, we got high winds and stormy weather this weekend. But luckily it’s only blowing badly at night. Happy April to you too Meredith! Helen at Summer House´s last blog ..Of Bunny Ornaments and a Painted Russian Egg
Helen, I do hope your garden art survives all that wind… although that does sound par for the course here in April. Tons of different kinds of extreme weather all seem to flit through at this time of year.
Well, seems like March came in acting like early Feb and out acting like late April. I’ll take it. Garden dance of joy while I’m getting bitten by the no see ums, I guess they noticed the summer weather too. Jess´s last blog ..Little Transformations
So true, Jess! That’s exactly how it feels, as if we never had March or April weather at all… just went straight to May from February. Nonetheless, I’ll join you in that bug-bitten dance of joy.
March was a roaring lion here entrance and exit – April is just as predictable as usual – April showers and hailstorms with an brief interlude of sunshine this Easter weekend. Rosie´s last blog ..The Overlooked Spring bulb – Spring Snowflakes

Me, too, Chandra! I hope I make more time for the garden this month, now that the weather is cooperating and urging me to do so. Thank you for the compliment and the good wishes. We had a lovely trip down south to see family.
"The moment one gives close attention to any thing, even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.”
It’s a day of pure joy. When the wind blows and sets the whole green forest to dancing, I’m sure my soul can no longer fit within its boundaries, but must go out and share.
Do you know the feeling I’m talking about?
(from "riches", April 2010)
Who am I?
While that question is probably a little difficult to answer in a paragraph (or even in a lifetime), I can tell you that my name is Meredith, and that I love to ponder life's mystery and beauty and joys and then write about them. This blog is all about my interactions with Nature during my walks in the woods, visits to Botanical Gardens, in my own small, organic kitchen garden -- and anywhere else I happen to be when inspiration strikes.
Where does my garden grow?
Upstate South Carolina, in USDA Hardiness Zone 7(b) (average annual low temperatures between 5°and 10° F/-15° to -12.2° C) and in AHS Plant Heat Zone 8 (90 to 120 days per year above 86° F/30° C). We get a lot of rain, nearly 50 inches (127 cm) per year in a typical year -- although lately we've been plagued by drought. This region of the United States is considered subtropical.

Drizzle we’ve had a lot of lately, too, Nancy, but it’s the nature of spring, I think, to need lots of water to get off to a bright green start.
