Um… are my Brussels sprouts talking to me?
I sat there staring at the letter in the vegetable for a couple of minutes, wondering what word exactly the “p” could presage.
And then I remembered F.* telling me there is a psychological disorder where people see meaning everywhere, and I decided the Brussels sprout might be hinting that it was time to “Please lighten up.”
Honestly, the “p” should stand for “pooped,” as I think if I’d gotten a full eight hours of sleep I wouldn’t be trying to read messages in my vegetables at all. In that case, I would most likely not have let the poor sprout get stuck to the bottom of the pan and branded, and I certainly wouldn’t be wondering if it was really trying to whisper something that starts with a “d.”
Hmm…
No, I’m sure of it now. It’s a “p” for Pajama Time!**

*F. was a psychologist before he turned physicist. Another two “p” words to add to this preposterous post.
** Pajama Time! was my favorite book to read the kids when I was a nanny. I can really do it up, too, with voices and even a little party dance — when I’m not so pooped, of course.

lol, Meredith! I have to admit I’d think there was some deep meaning in the branded “p”, too. But I’d be the first to admit I’m strange
Sweet dreams!
Talon´s last blog ..An egg, a seed, and grass…
We’ll be strange together, then, Talon.
Pshaw, that “p” is nothing. Look at the sprout directly above it. I see a young girl getting her cheek kissed by the man-sprout on the left. The one with the bushy eyebrows.
And you thought you were strange

Annie’s Granny´s last blog ..April 28, 2010: Granny Scores at the $ Store
Oh, my God, Granny, I see it! Now I feel so much better about the little ol’ “p.”
And now I totally have to write a story with a main character who reads vegetables. Awesomesauce
I shall call her Meredith

Merrilee´s last blog ..An Ode to Simon
Oh, please do, Merrilee! And make sure I get to read it after. I can’t wait to learn what your imagination will make of it.
Well, she’s talking to me already, so that’s a good sign. Will keep you posted!
Merrilee´s last blog ..An Ode to Simon
Hahaha Meredith, that’s creativity at its best! It is also in the eye of the beholder. If i am the one who got it i can think of pet, please, be kind to me! …a lot more. Happy Weekend!
Andrea´s last blog ..Beautiful find in Banaue mountains
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post, Andrea, and took it as evidence of a creative mind at play. After I wrote it, I told F. everyone was going to think I’d lost it.
I’d like to see that party dance! I hope you are less pooped this morning and that is most certainly a subliminal message in that brussel sprout.

Lynn´s last blog ..Visit, satisfaction and warbling
Lynn, it’s a toddler-specific dance. I don’t know if I could trot it out for adults.
I slept almost ten hours, relieved to have finished the work for another deadline. So yes, all rested up now.
You are bonkers and i love it. I’m concerned about the ‘p’ or ‘d’ issue, but it’s your message and you seem to think it’s a ‘p’ deep down. If I’m not careful I could lose sleep over this and probably will start to read my own dinners….mad

Get some proper sleep mrs!!
carrie´s last blog ..I’m still here and I shall win
I am indeed, Carrie. Some of the very best people are bonkers, so I’ll take it as a compliment.
If it’s a “d” it’s for “don’t lose any sleep over this message” and “digested Brussels sprouts tell no tales!”
Oh dear, it looks like one of those crop circle patterns in minature to me…I think I should be off for a snooze too!
Heidi (GippyGardener)´s last blog ..The Compost Ate My Jeans!
Heidi, how clever of you! I hadn’t seen that before, but now I do. Hmm…
Oh I love this post
I too would have tried to read the meaning in the P…and I had no idea that that was a psychological thing either. Too funny. I hope you got some rest

Alisha´s last blog ..It’s a very, very "Mad World"
Hehe, Alisha, I’m glad you enjoyed it. As you know, I’m rather good at extrapolating meaning from, well, *anything* — which is a normal human activity. It’s when you start taking it too far that it becomes tricky.
As a ‘P’ myself who lives for perceptions your perusal into the perplexing messages patterned into the brussel sprout (a favorite of mine) was most productive in producing a sense of gratification for your views.
(Oh phooey on the big words …. I like the post
)
philip´s last blog ..Focus fades
Awesome, Philip. I’m glad you like it! And you’re very good at alliteration.
That’s hilarious! I am thinking of Charlotte’s Web… maybe your veggies weren’t fast enough to spell out the full message before they were munched. Haha!
Some Pig…
Pretty Sprout? Perfect Sprout? Puny Sprout?!
WE’LL NEVER KNOW!
Eliza´s last blog ..How to Identify Eastern and Forest Tent Caterpillars
Oh, Eliza, I hadn’t even considered the Charlotte’s Web angle. Ah, now I’m off on another pleasant mental tangent. Thank you for that.
What if it’s a “d” or some sort of hieroglyphic writing? What if it’s not a “p” at all?! And where did the sprout come from…perhaps that’s a clue! I’m intrigued!
kimberly´s last blog ..Bolivian Sunset
LOL, Kimberly. I elect you resident code-breaker. You’re asking all the right questions.
Did you consider trying to sell it on Ebay??? Or did you just pchomp down on it?

villager´s last blog ..Chive Blossom Vinegar
Dang it! I totally didn’t think of the Ebay option, Villager. I could have been rich maybe — and instead I’m just richer in Vitamins A, B, C, K, manganese, iron, and calcium.
Hee…maybe it’s a message from the Peas!
Kathy´s last blog ..Procrastination, Thy Name is Kathy
You’re probably right, Kathy! Peas are a Pain to Produce, I’ve discovered this season with my experiment. Either I have no clue what I’m doing (most likely) or I need to have a lot more respect for those bags of frozen peas I buy to put in my chicken dumplings, LOL. Now they’re blooming their hearts out — but no baby peas are forming.
Nice alliteration! You read Pajama Time to Avery once. Very funny indeed!
Oh, yes, I remember that. And she looked at me like I might be a bit kooky.
Aw, she was so cute dragging in all those books, one after another. Do you remember that? Dalton was a still a Buddha baby back then.
Ah, good times.
lol! too funny meredith- it could have been p for perfection? eat it, let it be gone, eat it, it is a way to be happier, eat it!
elsa´s last blog ..happy may!
“Eat it” may be the best message to come out of all of this, Elsa.
