  1. That looks like a lovely shady spot to spend a warm (almost) summer afternoon.

Well, it’s a nice shady spot to pass beneath on a hike. Let’s say that, Clare. I wouldn’t want to spend all afternoon there: even in the shade it was rather hot for my taste. ;)

  2. No you can’t take it with you.
Only relive it in dreams and memories
    For was yesterday really here

    Nice thought for the day.

Wise words indeed. Methinks I may have to read some Annie Dillard. She came highly recommended by one of my favourite authors, Philip Yancey, and now I see her quoted in an enchanted word garden… hmmm. What am I waiting for? :P

    • Meredith says:

I can add my recommendation to Mr. Yancey’s, Tony. My favorite of hers is For The Time Being. But many people prefer to start with her Pulitzer-prize winner, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek.

Maybe you’ll dive in to one of them on some lazy afternoon!

    Great quote, Meredith!

LOVE that quote — and what a perfect spot to spend said afternoon. ;)

Absolutely, positively the BEST gardening advice one can receive, Meredith. The older I get the more fleeting the minutes seem to be and since now is all we have we’d better enjoy it.

Such true words. Gorgeous shot, Meredith! Looks like a great place to curl up under with a good book or a good companion :)

That shot made me think of that precisely, Talon, of curling up with F. on a bed of soft fallen leaves from last November, maybe whispering sweet nothings. ;)

Annie was so right. :) Lovely shot looking through the leaves.

No matter how many times I see the term, ‘Carpe Diem’ always resonates!
The Annie Dillard quote I was not familiar with…. but she seems to sum it up perfectly.
Hope you’re having a great day!

Looks like a lovely spot to spend a lazy afternoon. Makes me want to lie on a blanket and look up at the sky through the leaves…

  12. Such a simple shot, and simple words to go with it, but so poignant too!

IG, simple and to the point was all I could manage in my heat-and-humidity-induced haze. I seem to have trouble getting up the energy to write a standard post at this point. Perhaps I’ll have some new brilliant idea when the heatwave breaks. Until then, I’ll be satisfied with “simple” and “poignant.” :)

  13. Very nice! Green lace. I love green color so much! Even now when it’s raining every day, the greenery is making me happy. It’s so bright, fresh, intense and not faded by sun.

    • Meredith says:

Very poetic, Tatyana. I never thought of it as green lace before. :) I do love the greenish light that comes spilling through the stained-glass canopy this time of year.

I’m glad you’re getting all that magical, enlivening rain!

  14. Patricia says:

What a great quote and photograph – combined loveliness.

I remember the canopies of deciduous trees when I was walking through the woods to my social work practicum in North Carolina. Not very common here – elegant, truly elegant.

    • Meredith says:

Patricia, I honestly had not thought of that shot as anything but common until you said that. It would be hard for me to live where I couldn’t look up and see the forest canopy fairly often!
